On Monday, March 11, Glens Falls proudly sent eight teams to compete in the annual WSWHE BOCES Battle of the Books held at the SUNY Adirondack campus. The competition is open to teams grades 3-6, and this is the first year all of our schools had teams at every eligible grade level.
Battle of the Books pushes students to read books they might not have selected on their own, and students often end up loving them! Students also learn teamwork and have the opportunity to share ideas with their peers. The teams have been preparing since September by reading ten books selected for the competition and meeting weekly to discuss them.
All teams worked hard and had fun at the competition, with the GFMS Fifth Grade Team clinching 2nd place in their division! We are #GFNationPROUD of all the Black Bear BOTB teams!
The Battle of the Books wasn’t merely about competition; it was a journey of discovery. Many students found themselves drawn to genres and authors they had never considered before. What began as a challenge soon transformed into a love affair with literature, as they unearthed hidden gems within the pages of each book. The event encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones and explore new literary horizons, broadening their perspectives and enriching their minds.
