Glens Falls Middle School is receiving a boost from a community partner to help make the school a better place for every student.

GFMS has been given a $1,500 grant on behalf of the Walmart Community Grants Team. The grant, which is given to organizations committed to making their community a better place for everyone, will benefit the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program at the middle school.

PBIS is a tiered framework put in place to support every student in a behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health capacity. The program also improves health and wellbeing by creating systems that reward students for positive behavior inside and outside the classroom.

With this grant, GFMS will reward students who demonstrate positive behavior. Those rewards may include event tickets, gift cards, school apparel, school supplies, water bottles, and more.

The goal for creating their tiered reward structure is to further help reduce classroom disruptions, incidents of bullying, increase attendance in the student population, and promote a respectful environment throughout the school.

The Walmart Community Grant Team believes in empowering their grant recipients to help them achieve their goals and provide support to nurture opportunity, sustainability, and community. The organization believes that supporting these areas also creates a shared value for anyone who visits a Walmart location or anyone who calls their local community home.
