A GF Nation tradition was back this year, and the “Pennies for Pink” drive once again netted thousands of dollars for gas cards to get local cancer patients to and from their treatments!

“We had a grand total of $3,699 raised for 2021 … or as I like to say, 147 times that all of us get to share our smiles with people within our community that need the smiles the most,” said GFHS sophomore Jack Sweet, who is the driving force behind “P4P.”

Jack had the idea back in second grade, when his grandfather was diagnosed with breast cancer. He had been moved by a video at one of his elementary school’s unity assemblies, and wanted to create a service project that could involve his entire class.

The Pennies for Pink coin drive began as an October fundraiser to benefit patients undergoing treatment at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center of Glens Falls Hospital. And as students and staff members pitched in, the fundraising totals continued to grow.

To date, the school community has donated $25,909 to the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation through Pennies For Pink. Jack delivered the 2021 check to the Foundation on January 20th.

The fantastic building-level collections for 2021 were:

  • GFHS SoroptiMISS: $976
  • Kensington: $952
  • Big Cross: $653
  • Middle School: $613
  • Action Jackson: $482
