But when the classroom is also home to a kindergarten aide like Stephani Harrison, everything seems to feel lighter.

“The most rewarding aspect of my job as an aide is all of the hugs, ‘I love yous’, and ‘thank yous’,” says Miss Harrison. “A student recently said they had told their parents they love school so much because they feel like I really listen to them. When that was said, it reminded me of why I do what I do, how important my role is, and how I can have a positive impact on my students’ lives.”

“Miss Harrison is very kind and caring, and will always go the extra mile to help support the kids and teachers,” says principal Debbie Hall.

She values each and every interaction, whether it be at the door greeting students and parents for breakfast, in the cafeteria helping out with lunch, in the classroom helping with daily activities or in a private moment where a student has trusted her with their exciting news or worries and fears. Stephani brings sincere love and care with her to Big Cross each day.”

“I feel my service is giving the children the confidence to believe in themselves academically, so they can set their mind to achieve any goal they want and I will be there to help, and to cheer them on,” says Miss Harrison. “The most unique aspect of my ‘day-to-day’ is that no two days are exactly the same. Each day brings an opportunity for the kids to grow, as well as myself.”

Miss Harrison’s presence is felt up and down the hallways of Big Cross Elementary, with colleagues in the building being thankful for the positive impact she brings to everyone — staff and students alike.

“She will go out of her way to offer a lending hand and friendly smile to brighten a child’s day,” added Miss Hall. “She brings joy and laughter each day to everyone in the Big Cross family.”

When she’s not at school, the Queensbury native is more than likely outside enjoying nature. Miss Harrison is a Queensbury High School Class of 2007 graduate, and has been happily employed through the Glens Falls City School District since September 2019.

Miss Hall couldn’t be happier about Big Cross being her home. “Thank you, Miss Harrison, for all that you do for our community!”
