GFHS Senior Corbin Carpenter Shares Winning Memorial Day Essay at Crandall Park Ceremony

GFHS Senior Corbin Carpenter Shares Winning Memorial Day Essay at Crandall Park Ceremony

Congratulations to GFHS senior Corbin Carpenter for winning the Memorial Day essay contest! He will be reading his work at the Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday in Crandall Park. Here are passages of Corbin’s impactful essay:

The words “give all” are powerful. They signify not just a commitment, but a total surrender, the willingness to put aside everything, to lay down one’s life for the greater good. It’s a sacrifice so profound that it’s difficult for many of us to comprehend. But as a nation, it is essential that we not only understand it, but that we remember it, every day, especially on this day. Memorial Day is a time to pause, to reflect, and to show our deepest gratitude for the heroes who gave everything to protect the ideals we hold dear…

On this Memorial Day, we must do more than just honor the memory of those who gave all; we must also take action to preserve the values they fought for. We must live lives that reflect the principles of courage, duty, and service. We must teach future generations about the importance of sacrifice, not just in the context of war, but in the everyday acts of kindness and service to others. The legacy of those who gave all lives not just in monuments and ceremonies, but in the way we live our lives each day.

We remember with gratitude all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
