Celebrating ESP Week: Susanne Scarincio at GFHS

She's the keeper of the keys, the bus garage liaison, the BOCES attendance recorder, the lost and found, the cell phone collector, the door buzzer, the mail sorter, the snack supplier, and at times, a part-time detective. “I’ve been known to pull a file or two for authenticity when a note looks a little shady,” notes High School Attendance Clerk Susanne Scarincio. “I take the safety of our students very seriously. No student leaves our campus without going through me first. They all must follow the proper protocols and verification in order to be dismissed.”

Ms. Scarincio calls her position as attendance clerk one of the most challenging, yet rewarding positions she’s ever held. “My responsibilities include maintaining accurate and up-to-date attendance records for all of the high school students, greeting and screening all visitors and parents through our security system, and maintaining the front desk duties,” she says. “I take phone calls from parents and staff and find the answer for them, or connect them with the person who has the answer.”

Susie joined the GFHS family just last year, and spent some time with the School Counseling Office before taking over the busy front desk and attendance duties. “She brought a spark and energy to our front office,” says High School Principal Kevin Warren. “The moment she arrived, she had a particular kindness that put people at ease. She is often the very first face people see when they walk through our doors, and she sets the tone for what it means to be part of Glens Falls High School. We love having her on our team.”

And that feeling is mutual, as Ms. Scarincio finds the comradery and bonds she's created with the students, faculty, and staff very rewarding. “I love that the students know that they can come to me for any reason whatsoever. I’m always there to listen, help, or have a laugh. My service also brings forth accountability and a sense of real world responsibility for the students. I help them to understand the importance of showing up and being ‘on time.’”

“The bonds I have created with the staff, educators, and administrators have been wonderful as well,” Ms. Scarincio continues. “They have all been so supportive, helpful, kind, and encouraging from day one. We are a great team!”

Ms. Scarincio graduated from Hauppauge High School on Long Island and received her BA in Fine Art from SUNY Stony Brook. When she’s not managing the front desk of the school, she is doing hair at Cloud Nine Hair Salon. She also runs a small shop, “Little Miss Susie’s Boutique” in the Glens Falls Shirt Factory building. “I love to crochet, make jewelry, paint, and craft. I am also an avid bass fisher”woman”. I never leave home without my tackle box! But first and foremost, I am a mom to Vinny, the most kind and loving son anyone could ever ask for. He is my rock, my pride and joy, and my reason for everything that I do.”
