About Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights Elementary School is one of three neighborhood elementary schools within the Glens Falls City School District. Each neighborhood K-4 building provides a safe, caring and educationally stimulating environment which encourages lifelong learning. Our highly qualified faculty and staff members strive to meet the many needs of our children.

Our district-wide curriculum map mirrors the New York State Learning Standards. Remedial reading teachers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers, school psychologists and special education teachers provide added support, so all students can achieve.

The curriculum blueprint also incorporates instruction in music, physical education, computers and art. Chorus, band, and orchestra are offered in fourth grade. Third- and fourth-grade students also participate in our gifted and talented program, Project Stretch.

The district takes pride in its character education program which is integrated into daily activities. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged and helps ensure student success.

Principal’s Welcome

At Jackson Heights our primary goal is to help all children develop the academic and social skills necessary to meet the needs of the 21st Century. Our staff is highly trained and dedicated to academic and social excellence for all students. We work diligently at creating a safe and secure student-centered learning environment. This environment respects the uniqueness of our individual students.

Learning is the core of Jackson Heights as an academic institution. Our academic program follows the New York State Educational Standards in conjunction with the Glens Falls Instructional Maps. We use a balanced approach in teaching English Language Arts (ELA). The instructional areas under ELA are reading, writing, speaking and listening. Our mathematics program is arranged around five content strands: number sense/operations, algebra, geometry, measurements and statistics/probability. Science and social studies are based on student inquiry and exploration. Technology is integrated into all areas of the curriculum. The computer is used as a 21st century learning tool.

We welcome our parents as active partners in their child’s learning experiences. We have a strong PTA which offers many opportunities for our children. These opportunities include book fairs, activity nights, cultural events along with a school fair and other fun activities. Over the last few years our PTA has raised over $50,000 to replace and upgrade our playground.

Please feel free to contact any of our teachers or myself if you have any questions regarding your child’s experience at Jackson Heights.

History of Jackson Heights Elementary

Jackson Heights welcomed its first class of students in 1937. Our exterior footprint has not changed since then; however, interior renovations have taken place over the years. Some of these renovations include an enlarged cafeteria, a remodeled library with a state of the art computer lab and an elevator was also installed for easier access to the second floor. The main office was recently moved to the main entrance which enhanced our ability to provide a more secure setting for our students.
