Glens Falls City Schools provide K-12 public education for approximately 2,000 students living in the City of Glens Falls and part of the Town of Queensbury. Our small-city district covers approximately four square miles, and students walk to and from one of three neighborhood elementary schools, or the middle and high school, which are situated next-door to each other on Quade Street.

Glens Falls High School 21st-Century Learning & Science ClassroomsCompleted in the summer of 2019, the third floor wing was gutted straight through the roof. The use of “teaching walls” define laboratory and instructional spaces in the long classrooms, while larger tables are designed to serve as both lab tables and student desks. A new ceiling accommodates modern utilities and allows room for future technology infrastructure upgrades. See more from Mosaic Architects HERE.

Glens Falls High School Auditorium and Aquatics CenterThe complex that houses the Glens Falls City high school and middle school is a focal point in a city of diverse businesses, a vibrant cultural scene and outdoor adventure opportunities afforded by the community’s location on the Hudson River and just outside the six million-acre Adirondack Park.

In 2008, city residents approved a $15.6 million renovation project to improve the 1968 swimming pool, locker rooms, multi-use athletic field and create a modern 1,400-seat auditorium to accommodate the district’s extensive music program and the Glens Fall Symphony, a professional union orchestra.

The visually stunning auditorium design delivers the finest listening experience with an electronic acoustical enhancement system and acoustical cloud ceiling system. Motorized rigging, theatrical lighting systems and upgrades to the stage flooring, aisle carpeting and lighting make the venue suitable for professional-level productions.

The swimming pool includes mechanical and timing systems, an acoustic ceiling system and wall panels to diminish sound levels during practices and competitions. Indirect lighting, new spectator seating and new tile finishes create a fresh, vibrant aquatic center for swimming meets and community swim programs.

"Putt" LaMay FieldBernard “Putt” LaMay grew up in Whitehall, where he was a star on the football, basketball and track teams. He went on to play at Green Mountain College and Ithaca College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II.

Putt spent 33 years as a coach, earning 10 football league championships, 16 golf championships, nine boys’ basketball league titles and three track sectional titles. His high school coaching career took him to Fort Edward and Saratoga Springs before he settled in at Glens Falls High School. As a coach, he was best known as Glens Falls football coach from 1953 to 1972, where he went 110-28-6. He served as athletic director for 25 years and was president of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association from 1978 to 1980.

He had six undefeated seasons as a football coach. His former players said he was known for being honest, straightforward and demanding, and a man who drew respect from everyone.

His crowning accomplishment was bringing the boys basketball tournament to Glens Falls in 1981. But that was merely the final act in a long career marked by success as an athlete, coach, administrator and golfer.

He served on the state’s Central Committee and the Section II Executive Committee, and was an officer in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for 8 years. During his two years as president, the state began to reinstate championships that have been missing since the 1930’s.

In 1981, with the state boys basketball tournament struggling in Rochester, Putt convinced the state to bring the event to the Civic Center. It has been here ever since, a run that will extend at least until 2010. He was chairman of the tournament for 10 years, until he turned it over to Doug Kenyon.

Putt had been inducted into several halls of fame, including the Glens Falls Heritage Sports Hall of Fame, the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the Green Mountain College Hall of Fame. In 2003, the city of Glens Falls declared March 17 to be Bernard “Putt” LaMay Day.

Water Testing in Glens Falls City Schools

In September 2016, a state law went into effect that requires all public school districts in New York to test water for lead. The law requires school districts to sample all water outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking purposes in buildings that may be occupied by students and to submit those samples to a state-approved lab for analysis.
