Summer art classes for students entering grades K-5 take place over a four-week period in the Glens Falls Middle School art rooms. Classes are held four days of the week from 9-11 a.m. Students participate in all kinds of projects, including print-making, photography, ceramics, and other various crafts. The entire Glens Falls school community is deeply saddened by an out-of-town car accident that took the life of Payton Thatcher, a first-grader in Mrs. Jenkins’ class at Big Cross. Our school support team will continue to monitor student reaction and help students who may need more time to adjust to this tragedy. At home, families can help by giving your child(ren) an opportunity to express their feelings openly and answer any questions honestly. Glens Falls City School District residents approved the 2017-18 school budget by a margin of 1108 "yes" votes to 260 “no” votes – an 81 percent approval rate. The $43 million spending plan will increase the tax levy by 1.94 percent, and represents a budget-to-budget spending increase of $1,627,387, or approximately 3.9 percent.  [ MORE ]

This funding supports a great program that lets kids study the aerodynamics of paper airplanes, celebrate Brazilian Carnival, read through exciting chapter books, taste the chemistry of homemade ice cream, and so much more.

Fewer test questions, extra time, and for the next three years, no consequences for any teacher in New York because of how his or her students perform on the 3-8 assessments. Individual student scores will not be on the student's transcript or permanent record. "We ask you to carefully consider the significant differences in this testing climate and protocol. If your child didn’t participate in the ELA or math tests last year—or might not this year—we respectfully urge you to consider supporting their participation in the state tests." The Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program is a free, half-day, full-year program for four-year olds. Entry into the UPK class is determined by lottery each spring. Lottery forms are due by April 13, 2017. Read more about the UPK lottery application [ HERE ].
Kindergarten students must be five years old by December 1, 2017 in order to start school in September. Registration for new kindergarten students is held at Kindergarten Round-Up at Big Cross on March 16, 2017 - call Marcia Winslow at 792-2619 to make your appointment.
